SUNSHINE blanketed the immaculate Metropolitan Golf Club in Melbourne’s famed Sandbelt region.
A sold out field of golfers teed off and the highly anticipated first round of the 2014/15 Golf Link Race to Bonville had officially begun.
Known as ‘The Leading Tour for Club Golfers’, the Series is back with a bang and, starting for the first time in 2014/15, the Golf Link Race to Bonville welcomes social golfers without official handicaps.
Backed by Australia’s no. 1 website for social golfers, iseekgolf.com, and now co-coordinated by event specialists Social Golf Australia, the Race to Bonville is fast becoming the pinnacle event for keen golfers.
With the Australian Masters descending on the club next month, Metropolitan proved a fitting opening venue for the Series as the course was at its manicured best.
The pros will be excited to test themselves on the slick greens and will likely face the same struggles this week’s amateurs were confronted with.
Our winner, and early pacesetter in the pursuit of a berth at Bonville in May next year, was Thien Le.
Le demonstrated the credibility of beginners luck and was delighted with his debut victory: not least because of the great prize haul that comes with a Race to Bonville victory.
Le’s score of 38 points saw the Melbournian walk away with a new Cobra Puma Golf stand bag, a bottle of wine courtesy of the Golf Link Wine Club, a coveted Race Series’ winner’s medal and a sought-after and free entry into the Victorian State Final at Yarra Yarra Golf Club.
Other place getters were also pleased to revel in their spoils, all provided by the great event sponsors. Some of the notable winners were: Golf Buddy Challenge winner Geoff Ross, men’s Cobra Puma Go Looong Challenge winner Adam Sutherland and the women’s equivalent winner, Alma Fonda Russell.
